*Please read this carefully, and respond exactly how you feel because ignoring it could mean the forum changes in a way you don't like* As we know the forum IS changing to hopefully broaden the audience available to us. Obviously we hope that'll mean more people come join in and thus make it fun for the people already here, you guys, the ones that have stuck with us for so long. So it only seems fair that as always with this forum, the people who use it have the greatest say in how it turns out. One way we're changing is the boards available to open up discussion as well as the positioning of the boards. You may already have seen a few small changes such as names of sections 'video games' as well as boards 'online gaming' and this is the sort of thing we're after changing. Personally I think this forum as it is now is orientated around the statement 'woo we've still got a Nintendo forum' and as a few of us have already admitted, that isn't going to help. So I intend on this topic resulting in a couple of things: A change to a forum based around discussion & less complex board structure. What I want you to do is look at this altered layout of the index I made and argue the hell out of it. Names of boards and sections, the positioning of them. Everything. No-one has seen this yet, not even Cieran, so feel free to redesign it as you wish: Section 1: Technology - Microsoft + Games - Nintendo + Games - Sony + Games - Other Technology (suggest your own more main boards here, what would you like to see? Computing? Mobiles? Apple board? GO WILD - Retro Technology (Edited in 19:22 9/6) forgot about it... Section 2: Community Forums - General Board (Could be removed if no-one can argue a good USE for it) - Super Happy Fun Board - Off Topic - News + Opinions - Arts + Entertainment - Roleplays + Fanfics - Reviews (EXPANDED!) [with more sub forums] - Online Gaming - Graveyard [Staff Only Graveyard] as subforum Section 3: The Forum (suggest name here) - Announcements (Read only) - Polls Board - Public Staff Opinions and General Complaints Section 4: Staff Only. As you can see from this the boards are simplified, less in quantity and there are much fewer sub forums. This makes the forum less daunting to look at and means a greater quantity of posts in each board. Remember this is nowhere near definite at all. But without your say so it will be just me and Cieran deciding on which of these changes to implement. So take time to consider want we want and post anything you feel at all below. We're very open to suggestions. =] Also note that no current topics would be deleted at all. Ryan Edited by Razberi, Jun 9 2010, 06:23 PM.

Should Section 3 still be at the top, to let people know of any changes so they don't miss them? :) |

Probably right Blaze, and with it only being three boards it should still show the main boards (named section 1) on the index without scrolling. A better name for it than 'The Forum'? Or are you happy with that? Edited by Razberi, Jun 9 2010, 05:46 PM.

Not too sure about a name, I'll think about it, but 'The Forum' does sound okay for now. :) |

Looks good but I also agree that section 3 should go at the top. I was think about perhaps a Movie and TV board, you could argue that those could go into the arts and entertainment board but I think they are big enough mediums to deserve their own boards. I agree about expanding the review boards mainly because I'm very fond of writing reviews :p Plus I think the archives are quite out of date. I think the General Chat Thread could remain just to express abstract comments and opinions rather than full blown discussions. Edited by picollo no., Jun 9 2010, 06:09 PM.

Pic. Then maybe the way forward is to rename the arts and entertainment board to something. 'TV and other Entertainement' 'TV, Films and More' 'TV & Film' Because anything not otherwise covered could be the use for the general or off topic board. General Chat Thread is meant to be for just what you said, but people just seem to prefer to use the one place. Otherwise people's post counts might be quite higher. |

Yeah perhaps a 'TV & Film' board would be the way forward and maybe a seperate Arts board for stuff like fan art. |

To be honest I doubt the board "Retro Technology" will be getting much attention. I think it's something to fit under the "Other Technology" board. And also, I think "Online Gaming" belongs in Section 1 (Technology), and not Section 2 (Community Forums). |

I put it there because its an 'Online Gaming Community' well that's what live is marketed as at least. But I can see why you'd say that. Just one of the many things that need to be decided. What does everyone else think about the placement of online gaming? The retro technology board is probably a hit and miss I agree Pete, its just an offspring of the retro board. Though i'm surprised you of anyone is arguing against it. :] Edited by Razberi, Jun 9 2010, 07:57 PM.

Wouldn't Online Gaming be better in the Technology section with the other games sections? EDIT: Ack! Late! I was reading and didn't refresh. :p |

This is the first time in a long time i've seen 7 members on at once. Think maybe the changes are interesting people. Maybe. =p Keep the opinions coming anyway. Shame Cieran hasn't seen yet. Sure he'll have plenty to say. Seems he has a life tonight though! ;) Edited by Razberi, Jun 9 2010, 08:20 PM.

A possible reason why we may have more members on than we have had in a while is because most of us genuinely want to helpwith the forum ;) I probaby have a few ideas but I just need a moment to stroke my beard whimsically and think of them :p Just wondering how long would it take changes to be implemented ?:/ Edited by picollo no., Jun 9 2010, 08:26 PM.

Setting up the boards in the way above would be a simple enough job just a long winded process. Probably half hour tops. But we'd need to know for sure what's going where and it what position before we start. =] |
