Seems I've got a lot of discussion to make up for :p I don't really agree with people's disappointment with Skyward Sword. It looks beautiful. I initially thought it looked a bit rough but watching the trailer again and seeing it along the lines of something like a water colour painting it looks marvelous. I remember reading Miyamoto saying the sky was styled after a Cezanne painting which is very interesting and both him and Aonuma probably thought this style fitted in with the game best. But what I'm interested in most of all though is the storyline as it could blow timeline theories apart or confirm them. We just have to wait and see :D |

Yeah I saw they mentioned impressionist art as an influence, but tbh impressionism aims to draw the colour and emotion out of ordinary objects. I don't think dropping giant mushrooms round the forest and the style of the enemies really gave me the impression (lol) that they were thinking of that. The demo actually looked really bland a lot of the time. Sky looks nice though, I can see it working. Hopefully that was just that area, or even just the demo, that the style didnt work perfectly. There's a clip of a view which does look really, really, good, however. |

Well that is one area they put together for the demo I'm guessing and the rest of the game will probably be much more varied and detailed and Aonuma has been recorded to say that the game will not be as big as TP but far more detailed which I think is actually better as TP had a big overworld but with relatively little to do and see in it compared to OoT and MM. Also it is intreresting to note that the game could take place on two worlds, Hyrule below and Skyloft in the... well the sky :p and the fact the sky looks so beautiful could be significant for the rest of the game especially if rumours are true and Link can fly in this game :D That would be awesome :x As for the impressionist idea it could well be an impressionist view of Hyrule. Yes the Bokoblins (I'm guessing thats what they are :) ) look a bit silly but they are genrally silly enemies whilst the Stalfos shown in one of the videos looks more intimidating which those enemies generally are. As for the Mushrooms? Harking back to Links Awakening maybe :p (I am aware that game is not in Hyrule). But overall I'm in favour of this change in art direction because what is great about nearly all Zelda games is that they all look and feel unique which sets them apart :D Plus they have nearly a year to work on the game which they can spend polishing the graphics. As Miyamoto said if they just used TP's graphics the game would be finsihed already so I'm guessing most of the gameplay has been finished already so they can spend a few months overhauling the presentation and composing a beautiful orchestrated soundtrack :) Hopefully :P |
