...I wanna have words with your dealer Shifts

Nintendo are dropping the RRP of the 3DS to £155 effective August 11th, just to wind up all those that paid £230 for their's, apparently.
However, to sweeten the blow, anyone who visits the 'eShop' gets a ton of free downloads, Sony style.

We have a proper IRC channel now. irc://irc.synirc.net/noe2, that's #noe2 on SynIRC.net

I can't believe we didn't already have a thread on this :p.

I don't care much for Metroid, but the people saying "OMG MOVE TO THIRD PERSON IS CRAP METROID WAS ALWAYS FPS" etc, they can get lost. It was a platformer, there WERE Metroid games before Prime...

I am looking forward to this. I really like the Metroid universe, even though I have only played the Prime series (introduced by the Hunters demo with the DS).

Shame it completely removes the tense isolated atmosphere that was present in the first Prime, and I'm guessing many of the earlier Metroid games, but change isn't necessarily a bad thing - can always replay Prime 1 for that atmosphere.

I hope they're gonna get Kenji Yamamoto on the soundtrack again (but it is a different company, I don't know if Yamamoto works for Retro Studios of for Nintendo). I like his music, it really suits the games. Lots of next gen games recently though seem to be headed toward a big, movie-like soundtrack which is something I'm not keen on. Kind of. If you get what I mean. If I get what I mean...

I'm not sure I like the idea of giving Samus a complete backstory, as part of her characters appeal to me is that she is a lone wolf covered in a shroud of mystery. I feel like adding more to her may cheapen her character :|

In Fusion, you learn some of her backstory. I think it'll be interesting if they do it right.

They still need to leave a bit of mystery about her character though.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to know the whole thing.

That might still happen. The demo they showed didnt have very much gameplay in it at all :(

I'm looking forward to it but I've enjoyed all the Metroid games apart from the 1st one on the NES as it is just dated now.

Kinda old news now, but Metroid: Other M details here:
Screenshots- http://kotaku.com/5479452/metroid-other-m-...ens//gallery/10
Gameplay Details- http://kotaku.com/5479418/metroid-other-m-...-of-perspective

So what do you think?

Seems interesting to me. I'd need to see some gameplay videos before I can judge that. The art seems a bit plasticky though. Well, as long as it's good enough to pay for, I'm not expecting it to live up to the Prime series, which I love (and am currently replaying: finished 1, now on 2 and I've beaten the Boost Guardian after 3 years (see earlier thread)) in terms of immersive environments or atmosphere.

I'm really looking forward to this because I'm interested in how they are going to explore Samus Aron's character. But then again that may take away some of her mystery ?:/

Well, i am guessing that you have all see the new trailer(link just to be sure) for the game where Samus has a voice that,if you ask me, isn't too shabby.

The game is also looking like it is shaping up nicely as well.

It is looking very impressive and with SMG 2, Zelda \nd with other 3rd party efforts I think the Wii will hit its stride this year.

I liked Samus' mysterious air, I don't want to know her background really. Having said that, I've only played the Prime games so I don't know how detailed her history has been in the 2D Metroid games. (I almost called them Metroidvania-style but that'd obviously be stupid of me...)

Because chances are she'll end up with a backstory here that's not particularly interesting or unique. As far as I expect it, at least. Still, could be a surprise, and as long as the gameplay and soundtrack are up to scratch I'll be reasonably happy.

Well in Fusion there was a reference to an Adam Malkovich (who will be appearing in M) who was a commanding officer to Samus and explains a bit about her past about a bounty Hunter. But aside from that don't think much is known about her backstory. I may be wrong but wasn't Samus brought up by the Chozo?

When she was a girl her home planet was attacked by the space pirates, commanded by ridley I think, then she went to live/was sent to/was kidnapped by the chozo, who raised her.

I think that is right, cos it was the Chozo who gave her, her power suit.

Here we are, footage of the gameplay at last.

It's looking pretty good, I'd say.
