...I wanna have words with your dealer Shifts

Nintendo are dropping the RRP of the 3DS to £155 effective August 11th, just to wind up all those that paid £230 for their's, apparently.
However, to sweeten the blow, anyone who visits the 'eShop' gets a ton of free downloads, Sony style.

There are so many words that could be used to describe this game; beautiful, epic, masterpiece, but the only one for me that can truly describe this game is charming and it is indeed the most charming game I have evr had the pleasure to play.

It really is hard to conceive how much this game has going for it, as it basically has everything a game needs, great gameplay, an amazing soundtrack, fantastic graphics, challenge and great story and characters. there really is little wrong with this game and I'll be delighted to describe to you just what it does so well.

Dragon Quest is very much a traditional RPG, there are town, an overworld to explore, dungeons with a challenging (and I mean challenging) boss, it also features turn-based battles and random enemy encounters. Now to some those last two things may not seem very good at all, but the encounter rate isn't that high and never really gets in your way and the battle system has a lot of depth, you have your basic attack, defend, item options as well as the ability to flee from fights. But there is also a command to intimidate the enemies causing them to feel stunned and miss a turn, also later in the game you get the ability to collect monsters to form a secondary party which you can call up in a tricky fight to help you out of a tight situation. Each of the character have a very different individual move set which requires you to use each party member to the best of their abilities inorder to beat the bosses and ins ome cases even the regualr field enemies. And trust me this game is tough and if you don't pu real thought into what you are doing you'll find yourself facing many game over sreens.
This game is incredibly retro, you'll find no save points in dungeons here and dying results in you getting sent straight back to the last church (save house) you visited. Those of you only used to playing modern style RPG's will relaise the luxuries they've taken for granted.
Now another aspect of the gameplay and to me the best thing in the entire game, the giant world the game is set. It really is a thing to behold and you'll spend hours simply exploring every inch of it as there is always something to find. The games excellent draw distance allows you to marvel at the beautiful horizon offering tantalising glimpses of where you'll be heading in your journey and each area so is so varied you won't get bored. There is a dirt path which will indicat the route to the next checkpoint but why would you wnat to stick to the path when the game offers you so much for the exploring. You'll come across ruins and beaches none of which have anything to do with your main journey but they add that extra bit of element into the gameworld. Epic.
There are also plenty of sidequests which can be used to obtain things like weapons and other such rewards and after the last boss there is another challenge (meant in every sense of the word) which I'd rather you found out for yourself. I guarante you it will take at least 80 hours to do everything in this game.

Now onto the graphics and I'll tell you they are beautiful probably the best use of Cel-Shading I have ever seen and Akira Toryiama's (Dragon Ball) artstyle is simply amazing, especially in reagrds to the enemies which are awesome in so many ways. Everything is incredibly detailed even the overworld, you'll see individual glades of grass and flowers blowing in the breeze, you'll see the trees leaves rustling in the breeze with their greens and autumn hues depending on the rea your in, your shadow will get longer as the suns sets and the blue sky steadily turns to a firey orange before night falls and the music steadily fades out. It is an absolutely beautiful game and all the little details add so much extra life and charm into this already wonderful world.

The music is also wonderfull and brilliantly orchestrated, and is always appropriate for the situation whether it's comical or more serious in tone. It may get a tad repetitive but never annoyingly so and the overworld theme is a sprawling masterpiece. The voice acting is also excellent, Yangus' rough cockney accent sticking out for me. You'll find most of the accents are English but there are some French and Italian ones in there also, which helps immerse you in this medievil world plus it also shows this game doesn't take itself too seriously which again is all part of the charm.

Ths tory is that of a standard fairytale; a big kingdom one night is frozen in time by a sinsiter Jetsr called Dhoulmagus who transforms the king called King Trod into a troll and the princess Media into a horse. Tha main hero (which you name) for some reason is not affected by this dark magic and the king sets you on a journey to help find Dhoulmagus and to return himself, his daughter and the kingdom iback to normal. Along the way you meet a bandit, the before mentioned cockney Yangus, whoc joins you after the hero save his life, there is Jessica a firey red hed and noble of a small town who wants revenge for the murder of her brother, and Angelo a smooth talking, womanising Knight of the Templar who grew up in an abbey who joins you after the Abbot of the Abbey died. They seem pretty cliché, but as the adventure goes on they develop and become incredibly well rounded, plus none of the characters come of as angsty which has been a proble in recent times with the Final Fantasy series. The characters in DQ are as unpretentious and charming as the rest of the game. Even the bosses have great characters my personal favourite being Khalamari an octopus with split personality tentacles, but it overall it's nice the bosses are actual character rather than a non-descript monster you are forced into slaying.

This game is just simply amazing and the sheer charm of it will negate any problems you may find with it. And trust me it'll take a lot of time searching that world to find any minor problems.
