The Battle For Middle Earth is an odd type of RTS. In some you're restricted to a build radius, however in this you're given certain spots to build on around your fortress. These are spots for your barracks, as well as resource profuction units. Defensive tower spots are around the outside, and have seperate spots. The campaign is fairly uninspired, but gets you used to the game structure, which you probably wouldn't be familiar with. Where the game shines is in the online play. Online play has been heabily modded to include games modes from all of the most famous and popular RTS' over the last 15 years. For example, a tower defence game mode which can be found in many games can be played with 6 other players. You won't be dissapointed with the variety here. Overall it's a fun game, but I think everyone who was awaiting the release was expecting something more. The Lord Of The Rings is a large franchise, with lots of grand castles which weren't put to use in this. Fortunately, all of the problems were adressed in the sequel, which I will add an in-dpth review for very soon. 61% |
