This is the first Zelda game released on DS and as such had a lot of hype over it and according to most critics it has lived up to it's hype but has it really? I don't think so. Nintendo have exploited nearly everything the DS has to offer such as the microphone and how the whole game is touched controled, the only thing not uesd is the GBA slot. And like I've said the game can only be played with the touch screen and that of course is a problem in itself, not everyone wants to play the game like that so a traditional control option should have been made but it hasn't so that alienates one crowd. This is probably down to Nintendo's whole ease of use philosphy of late which is the only explanation I can come up with and on the whole that is true, I never found the game troublesome to play, I even liked the controls such as controlling the directionof the boomerang and planning the course for your boat on the open sea and it opened up some neat little puzzles but despite being fun they still felt gimmicky and the whole game was very easy probably down to this new controls. It is also very short and the story is almost non existent, it's the same Zelda aka Tetra getting turned into stone by some evil force and you go on quest to stop evil and turn Zelda back to normal, the story telling barely beats Zelda II which is a 20 year old NES game and the main villain is probably the most boring I've ever seen. The only redeeming character is the charismatic pirate Lineback who was the only one who portrayed any real personality in the whole game. The graphics are probably the best bit of the game as they retain the Wind Wakers style which suits a DS and as such is one of the better looking D games. Though the music sadly is rather below par for a Zelda game, there's a few nice tunes there but nothing at all memeorable. The whole game just feels like a Zelda for beginers and is so watered down that it's about as basic as the original Zelda game on the NES. Ok if you're new to the series but to anyone else this is rather basic and boring stuff and the multipalyer is boring and wasted opportunity as well. I expect much better next time. 66% |
