This is the first DS game that I bought after buying a DS. Being such a big Final Fantasy fan, I imported it and finished it long before the European release. Unsuprisingly Final Fantasy III isn't as complex as the later Final Fantasy games, and there it much less character customisation. You have the ability to change weapons (two) and armor, but your clothes aren't changed unless you select a new job. The job system works just as well as it did in the originals. You get a wide variety, and each job is useful at least once. I wouldn't take away from the score because it isn't complex, and doesn't take hours to learn, but I do like my RPG's to be like that. The reason I dislike it is because you can win the game if you change job now and again. Becuase the combat is simple and easy you're limited with Phoenix downs, which is quite annoying, but by the third hour of play you can easily memorise the locations of revival wells. What I'm trying to say is that the game is easy. Too easy, perhaps. The story progression is nice in this game. You won't get bored as it isn't long before you're treated to some new information or a cutscene. Again, the difficulty is a problem here, because it often takes no more than 20 minutes to complete a large chunk of the story which should be challenging in difficulty, but due to the distance another part which should take less time could also take 20 minutes, making the story progression slightly uneven. The graphics are great, for a DS game. They're off the same quality all around, and some of the 2D backgrounds are fantastic. Revealing which of these I'm referring to would, unfortunately involve spoilers. The controls work suprisingly well with the touch screen. You'll proably find yourself using the touch screen in battle more than you will on the overworld. While travelling the D-pad is superior, as the touch screen will be blocked by your hand and stylus. Overall they work well and are some of the best controls I've used on the DS. Overall III is a very enjoyable game. It has a good story and is well written. It won't last you long but you'll have a good two or three completions before you become bored. You can get it at bargain prices now, so there's no reason not to! 85% |

I found the game quite hard at the very begning but once I'd done the first dungeon I found that the difficulty had dropped significantly. I enjoyed the game but never defeated the last boss as it required too much level grinding and I just lost interest. I plan on getting FF4 DS when it comes out and from what I've played from it, it seems quite tough. |

I found it hard near the beginning too. Put me off the game for a while but I started again and enjoyed it after. Good review! |
