All Hope Is Gone!

I was going to post this on the Reviews Board but it won't let me, its read only so if someone could move it for me I would be greatful. Because of the joy for pre-ordering with GAME’s website I yet again get a game the day before it’s out! So I’m going to give a fast review on the new Transformers The Game for the Wii. Now I’m sure by now many of you will know that I LOVE the Transformers as I grew up watching the show as a kid. Well with the movie coming out next week in the UK there is, of course, a game to cash in on it. Now, the live action movie is every Transformer fan’s wet dream. I’ve seen the movie (the joys of the internet) so the game won’t ruin the film for me. So far I haven’t been playing for that long, about an hour so far. The game is following the film well, but with a few extra bits and a bit different to make it work as a game. The game lets to play as both the Autobots and Decepticons. So far I’ve only played the Autobots part of the game but have already been Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide and Optimus Prime. The graphics aren’t bad, even if it’s a bit PS2 and the animation of the Transformers turning from car to robot and back again will never get boring, its very well done even if it is missing the Classic sound from the cartoon that they managed to fit in a few times into the film. The controls are a problem at first but that’s with most games on the Wii. There are a few things that make you think ‘Why have they done it like that when So and So does it so much better?’ The camera is controlled with the curser on screen. Train you brain to play this as a 3rd person shooter with Metroid Prime style lock on and you should be able to play it without to many problems at the start. The driving feels a bit chunky when compared to the likes of GTA but again, once you get used to it, it works well and if perfectly playable. To sum up, it’s a good game. If it weren’t a movie game or the devolvement team up a bit longer to iron out everything then it would be a great game. Tons to unlock including the trailers from the film (I’ve unlocked the teaser trailer already) and being able to play as the Generation 1 cartoon versions of the Transformers. From what I’ve seen so far I’ll give it a solid 7/10. The score may go up or down yet as I’ve only been playing a while and yet to finish it. Since last night I have finished the Autobot part of the game. It doesn't really get any better, or worst as you play on but its dissapointing on how short it was and how easy it was overall. However, 2 of the boss battles are hard if you don't know what to do. Classic case of I died 25ish times with each time getting tottally owned and then when I do manage to do I have more or less a fall life bar! If you enjoyed the film (previews this weekend, out next Friday, the 27th) or just someone who grew up with the Transformers then you will find some enjoyment with the game. 7/10. |
