Games with excessive gore and superfluous violence are not very fun to me. Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and the Quake series are games I have played once, but ONLY once. All you do is go around and kill. Boring. But, Super Smash Brothers is a very, VERY different story. The game includes eight cool characters, such as Mario, Pikachu, and Yoshi among others. There are also four hidden characters that must be unlocked. These characters come from every popular Nintendo game such as Mario and Poke'mon as well as many others. There are also hidden stages and options! Gameplay - 10/10 The game comes with many different modes. There is the Single Player “campaign” where you choose a character, set your lives and difficulty level and start. In this mode, not only do you get to fight the regular characters, but also teams and special characters. Next is the training mode, where you can practice against any one computer player on any stage available. In this mode, you can tell the computer to stand still, walk, or attack; select and test any items wanted and zoom in to a cool close-up mode. Then, there is the vs. mode! Here you can play as anyone on any stage against up to three human or computer controlled opponents. You can set it in four different modes including teams and time or limited lives battle. Easily, this game will last weeks… Graphics - 9.5/10 The graphics are nothing short of outstanding, as can be expected of the Nintendo 64. The characters, commonly complained as being “low-poly”, look great. The backgrounds look great also, even being pre-rendered. Be sure to look for cameos on every stage. The frame rate remains very high, even in four-player mode, which thankfully is not split-screen. However, there is a spelling error on the Poke'mon stage and some appearances are sprites and not 3d models. Audio - 10/10 The audio is also amazing. The music is correct for each stage and goes well with the game without being annoying. The sound effects for the items and weapons are also accurate. The voice clips are also perfect and tend not to be repetitive. Easy ten here. Fun Factor - 10/10 SSB is a 2.5D, as some call them, “action/adventure/fighting hybrid”. You are 3d but the course, while rendered in 3d, is a “side-scroller”. Being able to play as Mario, Pikachu, and others is very fun. The object is not to kill or destroy your opponent, but to knock him/her off of the side of the course. The more damaged your opponent (or you) is from attacks, the easier it is to throw him or her off. Besides your own weapons, items frequently rain down on the stage such as beam swords (Nintendo's lightsaber), Poke' balls, fans, and many others that you can use against your opponents. In my opinion, the Mario series of games is the best game series on the N64 and Super Smash Brothers continues that tradition. |

I didn't play SSB much, but I remember the graphics being quite good, and the game being much, much better than Melee and Brawl. I would be tempted to give it 50%. |

I still own my N64 and a copy of Super Smash Bros. and I think being it retro it still has quite a lot of cool things about it, and for it's time it was absolute epic I mean, I play it from time to time when I play on the stages they were awesome especially the Kirby Dream Dream Stage or the Hyrule Castle Stage, they were awesome. I LOVED this game when I was younger and I never stopped playing it. I used to challenge everyone and win as Kirby or Ness. Gameplay: 10/10 As I said before I could never stop playing it, it was that intense. Graphics: 9/10 At that time people would say these graphics are great! Yet now compared to Brawl their nothing good. Their just meh. Audio: 10/10 I remember most of the games music. Especially Green Greens. Plus, good music while fighting is very rare. Even Street Fighter had problems with audio. Bros. didn't. Fun Factor:10/10 Today it is still awesome it is like playing Brawl old-skool so it is still generally the same, and to add a final point without the fun factor no sequels would have been made. Finally, it is still competitive yet not as competitive as Melee or Brawl as they added some new better characers to add gaming crowds to the Super Smash Series. |
