Waverace: Blue storm Fast Jet ski action! Game Title: Waverace: Blue storm Number of Players: 1-4 Price: Can pick up for under £10 new or second hand. Release: May 3rd 2002 (Gamecube release game) Console: Gamecube There are not many games where you can drive around on jet skis pulling off stunts as you go, but Waverace: blue storm is one of the games where you can. The main mode of the game is the championship, where you do all of the courses one after the other progressing through the difficulties (Normal, hard, expert) until you finally complete it on the higher difficulty. You may think that doing the same courses over and over on different difficulties would get a bit boring, but this is not true by the fact that the higher the difficulty the course is actually changed quite darasticly, making the replay value much higher. And also so you don't get bored the weather varies too from sunny to stormy. The next main mode of play is stunt mode, where you go around the courses going through rings (though you don't have to) and pulling off stunts. Though this is slightly spoiled by the fact that it's got stupidly high preset high scores for you to beat, making it less satisfying. The multiplayer is quite good with both stunt mode and races and not much, if any, loss in scenery/graphics and it's very satisfying smashing into your siblings/friends knocking them off their jet skis. With fairly good graphics, excellent weather effects (higher waves, rain splashing on the screen etc) and awesome speeds it is dissapointing that it is let down by a few things. The gap in difficulty between normal and hard is massive which is annoying and the stunts are sometimes too difficult to pull off and the fact that there are too many of them. (So you know all the stunts you really do need to have the manual so don't just get the game) Also in the races you have to go around buoys on the right siide, if you miss five you're out which makes shortcuts sometimes pointless. Score: 8.5 Additional comments: With lots of brilliant features it is dissapointing that it is let down by such a few things One word summary: Better than normal racing (I know it's not one word) Worth buying: Yes! |
