For those who don't know the Final Fanatsy series of RPG games with no connection in storyline (with some exceptions). The games use a battle system that was changed completely for this installment. The battle system is in full 3d. You can give characters comands each time you want them to do something, or you can set 'Gambits'. These are where you can set that a character will do a certain command (e.g. Attack or Cure) on a target (e.g. Nearest Enemy or Ally low on health). The Gambits are useful especially because it can be hard when you have three characters in your party. Unlike in other games, the battles are not random. All the monsters are shown on the screen, which means you can avoid fights easier if you're low on health. Another new thing in this game is that to learn abilities and equip equipment you need to buy licences with licence points which you get from monsters. But you can only purchase licenses that you already have an adjacent licence square purchased. It means you can specialise in stronger things or you can get a variety of weaker attacks or equipment. The main story to this game is a little thin, being a basic evil empire invades a town and the town rebels. But the character stories are more interesting. However I'm still only a few hours into the game and the story could pick up soon. The game so far is a very good game with a steep difficulty curve. There are plenty of side quests including hunts where you have to attack a specific monster. These 'hunts' usually lead to a separate side quest themself. Most of the time you need to do a few side quests in order to keep your level par with the monsters and bosses. I give this game 4.5/5 A very good game to play especially if you're a fan of the series, but doesn't quite measure up to some of the other games in the series. |
