Title: Who Else Dislikes The Touch Screen Contols?

Noolsey - December 30, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
First, I woul dlike to point out: I'm not here for an argument, so don't complain this time. ;)

Now, I've just about mastered the controls of the touch screen. I can use them. But it would be so much better with an optional D-Pad control set. I've also found it quite annoying at times. Like when I try to roll, it decided it wants to stand still and slash the sword so the indestructable thing has time to kill me.

To me, the touch pad, being the gimmick that it is, should be used for minigames. Final Fantay III used it, and did it well. But I still liked the D-Pad more. I like it on 42 all time classics, because that's obviously the type of gaming its designed for.

One last thing. I hate the microphone. I hate it a lot. Even when I'm alone, I don't want to start talking to a games console. I don't want to have to blow out flames. Especially in public. I don't mind doing so on Lost In Blue, all you have to do is blow, you don't have to talk to people with it. And that isn't the sort of game I'd play away from home. But Zelda is. Well, it isn't because of that feature.

I really liked the touch screen controls, although for parts where I had to shout into the microphone (that damned guy with the salvage arm) I merely tapped the mic with the stylus which got me the best price anyway - there was no chance I was shouting into a game while people were around.

You can just tap the mic? :p That's one problem out of the way.

Tap pretty hard though :p And only for the shouting I think - not the blowing.

I did. My brother was wondering why I did it and I got a funny look when I told him the game made me do it. :D

I liked the controlles but I wish items and weapons could have been mapped to the ABXY buttons as well.

Tis embarrassing talking to it. Like in Nintendogs..... I don't want to go into details after I yelled Sit. So I merely tap the mic with my stylus or finger, or clear my throat, something casual. So I voted for the D-Pad. :)

i don't mind really, some games lend themselves very nicely to the touch screen, i enjoyed LoZ:PH mainly because of the controls otherwise i would of found it a slightly below average zelda game, and i enjoy shouting objection in the mic in phoenix wright, something i never tire of but admittidly i haven't done so in public.
though for lengthy RPG session's the d-pad is more suited, though hopefully nintendo's next handheld will come with a anolouge stick which is more pratical for 3D games.

As long as its not as bad as the one on the PSP then it will be great.

At first i thought that the analog stick on the PSP was a speaker :p then i touched it and it moved and i was like shiat! I broke it! XD
I kinda liked the touch screen controls...was different.

well of course better than that, using a D-pad for a 3D game is easier than that but a decent one at least should do for ease of gameplay, i died so many times in super mario 64 ds because of how tricky it was lining up for those jumps of death.

I disliked the analog stick on the PSP. Very, annoying.

PJI - December 30, 2007 07:25 PM (GMT)
I've gotta agree with Nools on this one, the only thing I like to use the Touch Pad for is when I'm playing mini-games, not for adventures.

Prefer the D-Pad.

The Controls of Phantom Hourglass, IMO, is what made the gameplay feel fresh.

blaahbobblaahhf - January 3, 2008 07:38 PM (GMT)
I don't dislike them, but they DO simplify things a bit too much and don't really add anything. Plus, rolling is hard. Still, sometimes they do add a bit to it (e.g. throwing bombs). Phantom Hourglass is just dumbed down Zelda... And I don't really like it that much :| Most probably my least favourite Zelda game. It just doesn't feel epic at all.

Tenshi - January 3, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
Rolling is as easy as double-swiping at the edge of the screen.

But the edge is all the way over THERE :_|

I didn't dislike them, although I think they made the game easier, I prefer whacking a button to keep slashing, whit this I can just scribble, its no way as fun. :(

King Of Suede - January 31, 2008 06:04 PM (GMT)
i prefer touch controls on this game. what else would there be about the game without them.

Tenshi - February 11, 2008 02:37 AM (GMT)
Well, Nintendo tries new things, and most people think that the Touch controls are both innovative and fun. At least most people I know, anyway.

innovative

In which way? PDA.

Tenshi - February 11, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
Okay, fine. They are better and more responsive than most DS games. They are innovative as fas as DS games go. Is that better? <_<
