I think so, but I haven't played a modern Sonic game. Sonic with guns just doesn't appeal.

They're actually very different, if you've played the 3D Sonic games. Shadow has a mysterious past, Sonic does not. Shadow has various Chaos Emerald powered abilities he can use that Sonic can not. Shadow uses guns and can kill easily if he really has to, Sonic seems to have trouble killing and I think that he doesn't seem to really care for weapons. They do have some similar atributes, but overall they're both very different hedgehogs.

I personally prefer Shadow because he's darker, he has a personality that I prefer over Sonic's. More mysterious and dark, which I personally think is lacking in a lot of game series'. Plus he uses hover skates instead of running, which I reckon would be really fun to have. ^_^

they both have rubbish personalities. all sonic characters do. though i probably prefer sonic because i play games like that for a bit of happy fun not for annnoying emo storylines. plus shadows skating ability made him to hard to control.

I much prefer Shadow, though only because I played his game then got stuck and sold it, but, meh :p
