Title: Final Fantasy Or Dragon Quest

picollo no. - August 4, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
i prefer final fantasy but mainly because i have played more final fantasy games, while the only dragon quest game i have played is viii on ps2, which i love to bits but find too frustrating sometimes due to lack of save points in dungeons. but i guess thats it's old school appeal.

Hmm... I'd have to say Final Fantasy for the same reason. I've not played many Dragon Quest games myself either. I love the Final Fantasy games loads. ^_^

NOTE: I'm gonna' re-make this poll into a single choice poll, ok? There's no reason for it to be multi-choice with only two choices, right?

I haven't played DQ either. I'll probably get the DS one. Start with 4, even if that isn't very good, get 5, if that isn't good either I probably won't get the others.

Finished FF XII today :D

You did? Congrats. ^_^
I still haven't got round to finishing it even though I've been able to for a while now. I just can't find the motivation for some reason...

Where are you? I found the last battle dissapointingly easy after almost 75 hours of play time. But the area before it is so horribly boring :p

Blaze - August 5, 2007 08:57 AM (GMT)
I've played Final Fantasy a lot more than Dragon quest. I've only plaed DQ for a few minutes. I didn't like it. I prefer Final Fantasy.

Um... I'm at... ...crap. I forgot. :p I know that I'm pretty close to the end of the game though. It hasn't hooked me as much as some of the other Final Fantasys have though. I dunno why.

Leo - August 5, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
FF ftw! Chrytal chronicles pwns.

andy - August 6, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
Never played Dragon Quest so i'm going to have to vote for Final Fantasy which are great games.

ACx7 - October 23, 2007 06:28 AM (GMT)
FF definatly although im pretty sure DQ was made first it still feels like a cheap Rip off of FF

__daz - October 23, 2007 11:25 AM (GMT)
Final Fantasy Is probably the better of the 2.

picollo no. - October 23, 2007 11:49 AM (GMT)
well i've been on a dragon quest 8 binge lately. i got up to the fight with dhoulmagus ages ago but got stuck but now i've finally defeated him i'm hooked. it definately is a lot more addictive than final fantasty. it is no match for FF in terms of story but there is just so much to do. so much side quest, so much treasure to be found and the alchemy pot is a great way to make new items. i'm barely halfway through and already have spent 55 hours on the game. the majority of that spent on treasure hunts. it is just so charming and the art style is second only to chrono trigger.

Tenshi - October 23, 2007 03:36 PM (GMT)
Final Fantasy. I don't really care much for Dragon Quest.

blaahbobblaahhf - December 17, 2007 08:53 PM (GMT)
Final Fantasy all the way :^0
Actually haven't played any DQ yet :/... Will probably start with XI :p
Still, as good as it looks, it's still a basic turn-based RPG. Story doesn't seem AMAZINGLY great as the main protagonist is silent... And I prefer the sort of style of FF games - even though I'm not one to judge a game by it's style! I love Wind Waker! Honest!

G_R7 - December 17, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
I have to say Final Fantasy as I have never played a DQ game. But the FF games I have played I didn't think much of.

I've only play 1 on the GBA and 7 on the PS1 and I find both very, very boring. However, I did enjoy the GC game and I loved all 3 Kingdom Heart games.

Noolsey - December 18, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
You should play VIII. VII is short, over rated and easy. ;)

I would but the PC verison is too old for my laptop and I can't find a second hand PS1 verison anywhere.

i seriously recommend dragon quest to anyone who hasn't played it. it's story might not be the greatest but it's still nice and charming the characters are great and like i've said you'll lose yourself adventuring the giant overworld. it's also very tough in some places so difficulty isn't really a problem.

The newest on the DS is meant to be amazing. If it makes it out here then I may pick up a copy and give it a go.

Plus there's a certain charm about it that just makes it seem so great! ^_^

well thats it. the game is just so charming i find it impossible not to love it. i mean it has a boss which is an octupus with split personality tentacles and a mole who thinks he's james brown and the fact the majority of voice acting sounded authentically british rather than just rubbish impersinations you sometiomes get.

for those interested level 5 also released anothe rpg called rouge galaxy on ps2. it's a good game with a nice real time battle system and nice music, but the story is garbage apart from a few very touching moments and the characters bland without exception, plus it's a big world but it feels more like your walking through linear corridors rather than dragon quest open ended world. but it has a lot of replay value like your own factory which produces new items which can be sold in shops and a little awesome feature called toady which is a toad which eats weapons to prooduce a new one.
i would recomend it but it has nowhere near the charm of dragon quest and while it's graphics are technically better dragon quests graphics just have so much more character.

Oh yeah! I love DQVIII's voices! And that octopus was hilarious! XD It's things like those that make it just so worthwhile to play! ^_^ Plus with the whole tension thing you can rack up a huge amount of damage onto an enemy if you're strategic and careful. I love that! :x

yeah the tension system was great, i loved it when you rose hero's tension to 100 and his hair went all super saiyan style. pretty annoying when a boss does some kind of ability which make your tension go down though.
though in the voice depatment i particularly liked the snowy place where most people spoke in a russian accent, for some reason i just loved that. :p
oh my it would be so tragic if wii doesn't get a proper dragon quest game, that dragon quest swords nonsense jut doesn't do it for me, i want i proper adventure which is going to last me well over 75 hours like a proper dragon quest should. i'll always be getting all the dragon quet ds games if they are ever translated into english aswell.

yangus was definately one of the highlights in the voice department. though i thought in general all the voices were great. i also liked jessica's and marcello's voices as well.
if only most other videogames had voice acting as good as dragon quests.

Whhheeeeyyy. A man after my own heart. ^_^ Yeah, VII is better than VIII in my opinion too. :p
And I agree with the GBA choices too, but I'd also add FFTactics Advance to the list. ;)

Never played any of the tactics games... I've really been meaning too though! Probably will get War of the Lions when I get a PSP next year for Crisis Core :^0
Otherwise I would have waisted like £100 just for ONE GAME. May also get Silent Hill Origins :p
