Title: Writing weakness
Description: What's yours?

Leo - June 7, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
We all have weaknesses in writing, I for one aren't too great at action scenes, but what about you lot? What do you struggle with when writing?

Blaze - June 7, 2007 07:00 PM (GMT)
Sentence Structure. Thats my weakness.

shadowlink - June 7, 2007 07:04 PM (GMT)
i struggle with creating keeping a story exciting. I usually start off good, then it slowly starts to get less and less exciting as i lose interest. I suffer from pocrastination a lot of the time... But i'm going to continue to practice drawing manga, and who knows, maybe sometime this year ill start a book off ;)

Whoo! Go Manga! :D I can draw decent Manga. :D

joshytclegg - June 7, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
my punctuation isnt too good and i find it hard to make long action scenes without making them to boring

Cieran - June 7, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
I can never think up names for my characters, and I suck at action scenes. Also I tend to go OTT on description and not too much on speech, so much so that my fanfic is about a solo journey XD...

Nope. I buy my own Manga stuff.

Anyway, back on topic. I describe too much or too little.

My grammer isn't great and I'm not too good at the drawing, even though everyone says I am. :p

My grammer is bad.

Was that intentional :p?...

shadowlink - June 7, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
probably not ;)

Cilster - June 13, 2007 06:44 PM (GMT)
I'm good at most things for my story writing, action scenes, I amn't great on, but otherwise I'm quite good at writing.

falco_the_watcher - July 25, 2007 11:27 AM (GMT)
Keeping a long action scene interesting throughout, updating regularly (procrastination problems like shadowlink), NOT writing my speech in a playscript style, and making the description of the character permanent throughout.

Drawing problems, hands and faces, the usual. Although my Faces are getting better. I can see why most Sonic/Disney characters wear gloves though. Hides the shame...

I know I don't use the roleplays, but I may as well post here anyaway since writing interests me a great deal.

My wekness really is maintaining an interest. I always tend to get bored after a while - a reason I never do the roleplays. In fact I have tried to write a novel - two attempts so far have failed because of poor no planning and lack of motivation. But now I'm starting a third attempt - this time a murder mystery. There is planning this time (there surely has to be for the genre) and there certainly is motivation. I just hope there's enough writing skill to go with it.

eamonn - July 25, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
I am too lazy.

Pokemaniac John - July 25, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
The only problem I have with writing is that it can take me many, many months to think up a plot.

I've tried to write novels. I've got 34 pages on one but at the beggining it's pathetic (because I started it 3ish years ago) and where I am now is OK. I started another one a month ago, In my favourite genre of fantasy. And I've bothered to plan this time (which is a first for me when i'm not at school) It's got about thirteen pages already and for once my main character hasn't set off already.

Just a word of advice. You never have to write. You should only write when you feel like it and you should enjoy it. (These words don't apply to writing at school)

I know, I write because I enjoy it. It's the school holiday - time to enjoy myself. If I didn't enjoy it I wouldn't do it.

I aim to finish over the summer holiday, though 5 and a half weeks to plan and write a novel seems ridiculously short. 'Tis an ambition of mine to be a published author (not that I can afford it).

Leo - July 25, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
Hmm... yes a novel is at least 200 pages usually. And 5 and a half weeks is an awfully short time to write one in... I've just wrote some more on mine :D

falco_the_watcher - July 25, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
I'm a published poet, if that counts. hasn't cost me a penny, hasn't earned me one either. but it's something to say i've done.

I used to write a fanfic, that got to about 60 pages. But because i was a fan fic noob when i started, the first 15 pages or so are in chat speak, and so i've never really showed anyone. Nor will i start again.

I enter writing competitions fairly often, they're dead easy to win. ]:>

Dino Dan the Dinosaur Man - July 25, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
Well, I would love to walk into a book shop (Border's, WHSmith's, etc) and see a book on the shelf with my name on it. I can imagine it now. It must be a great feeling. Part of an anthology isn't really what I want - I want my own book, with my name on it. Yes, my book... My precious...

I imagine that writing competitions are easy to win because no-one enters. No offense, but I can't see writing competitions being very popular - I would never enter one.

falco_the_watcher - July 25, 2007 05:35 PM (GMT)
fair point, about 100 entrants, easy win. no offense taken.

Still, if you wanna seriosuly get published, it can't hurt to have some work in the open already could it?

at the moment, i'm just building a decent cv. when i'm through university, then i'll start writing my first novel. when i've gained all the knowledge i need. then, when i'm done, i'll scrap it and do the second draft. then restart altogether. as is in everything else i do, i can never do anything right first time.

in all, i MAY have a book published by the time i'm 90 :p

Bowserknight - August 31, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
Problem with writing for me is absolutely no description and bad narration, It's more like a movie script.

TimeShift - November 25, 2007 02:22 PM (GMT)
I am so bad and remembering things.
At the start I'll put an interesting fact about my character, then completely forget about it ¬¬ And I don't really put much description in coz I'm not that good at big and descriptive words. :(

PJI - November 25, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
With Roleplays such as EotD, I don't update my story enough. I'm not very descriptive on things either.

Game Master - November 25, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
I normally think of a good story line and write it down but if i have a limited amount of paper i could right on then my story wont fit in also some times i forget my story line and then i get tooo peed of. im crap at writing speeches and some times even scripts coz it get difficult.

TimeShift - January 7, 2008 06:55 PM (GMT)
Bumpage.

Updating a bit. I have a weakness where I put short sentences and they look very weird , and I still have trouble remembering interesting facts, describing, and stringing sentences together properly. :(

Bailey Bob - January 7, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
My weakness is keeping focus. I'm sat there in English doodling pictures of... Squirrels with gattling guns and stuff like that. Crazy stuff. I've spent that long doing this I think I can draw pretty much anything (Cartoon-ish style anyway)...

picollo no. - January 8, 2008 05:29 PM (GMT)
well i'm very good at description and my imagination is very good a problem i guess i have is a few grammar problems and i am a bit shy at showing my work to others but i think i have quite a way with words. i've made several attempts at writing a story set in a fantasy world but that was when i was young and i couldn't keep my interest in it and last year me and my brother attempted to write a script for our own fire emblem story but yet again it never really took off. but i have been thinking of an idea of an other novel which might have some degree of success, i'm thinking of doing something in a more contempary setting and i'll make sure to post it if i ever start it.
